How (and when) did you get into your current field or company?
I got into high tech in 2000 when I graduated with a degree in Computer Science. I joined Akamai in 2004 after working at start-ups and consulting companies.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical day is full of meetings! My job is all about helping people work together better across functions, across locations, and across groups. And doing my job well requires building relationships with all of these people.
What is the favorite part of your day?
The favorite part of my day is when a group of people I’m working with come together in a cooperative way after a breakthrough in understanding. THAT makes me feel like I’m making the group and the company better.
What excites you about working in your industry?
I’m excited that we are shaping the future of the Internet, both in terms of technology and in terms of the people involved.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Think Excellence – Not Perfection. I got this advice from a leadership development course, and it really resonated with me. I have some perfectionist tendencies, and I had to learn to let those go if I wanted to make progress in my career.
What is your favorite part of being a woman in STEM?
My favorite part of being a woman in STEM is the opportunity to build a community with other women who really understand what it’s like to work in this field, and can come together to support each other.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Hm, that’s a tough one. Not a lot of people (except close friends and family) know that I’m extremely clumsy.
What do you geek out about?
All kinds of stuff! Cooking, baking, running, dancing, and more.
