July 2015 SGO Event Wrap Up

In Blog, Events by Rachel Murray

happyroomThe lovely hosts at TripAdvisor/FlipKey really know how to throw a party. We were able to host 80 fabulous women and the food was from one of our faves, The Paris Creperie. We heart them!  Wine bottles were abundant and beer flowed from their kitchen tap!

After much eating, drinking and chatting, we were able to get started on the fabulous content, presented by Meagan John from TripAdvisor, Meff Leonard from FlipKey, and Kathryn Rodgers from Silent Spring Institute. Meagan talked with us about Grace Hopper, Meff shared her insights and challenges as a gay woman in tech (happy story, FlipKey is super supportive and she’s a happy QA’er!) and Kathryn asked tough questions about why we as a society focus more on reactive healthcare than preventative healthcare.
After a great conversation about the use of toxic chemicals in our everyday lives and how it’s particularly acute for women (hello makeup, skincare, nail polish, cleaning supplies, etc.), we had to stop to … er, give away raffle prizes! Wonder Woman socks (with cape!), a PacMan ghost lamp and a programmable LED message board were among the geek prizes, along with some fun loot from TripAdvisor!

We had so much fun and as always we can’t wait to see you at our next event!
